Replacing a Failed Disk

  1. Remove the failed drive, and replace with the new one.

  2. Connect to the web cosole of the storage array. Select the MSA > Provisioning > Manage Global Spares.

    Also you can Managing dedicated spares | for a vdisk.

  3. Tick the replacement drive > Modify Spares

    Note: If you cannot see the drive, and/or it is flagged LEFTOVR it may have metadata on it that needs removing.

  4. That’s it, the vdisk that had the failed drive will 'claim' the spare and rebuild, this may take a little time. After this process is finished, the vdisk will carry out a 'Media Scub' job.

Clear Disk Metadata

The 'new' drive was marked as LEFTOVR and was flagged with the following warning:

The Disk May contain Stale Metadata

The disk may contain stale metadata. Recommended action: Clear the metadata to rescue the disk.

You see this error because this is a 'recycled' disk, and it still has data on it that refers to the array and/or vdisk that it was in originally. This is the 'metadata' that it is referring to.

Note: From the image above, the disk will be dealing with is disk 8 (make a mental note of that).

  1. With the MSA Selected > Tools > Clear Disk Metadata.

  2. Remember our disk is in in slot 8, so tick it and click clear metadata.

  3. You can now treat this disk as if it were a new disk and add it as a global spare, the failed vdisk will then claim the disk and the RAID should rebuild it without further intervention.

The Virtaul Disk State is QTOF

机房断电设备重启后,硬盘状态正常,多个 VD 变成 QTOF 状态如下:

在执行 rescan 之后,多个磁盘被找回,VD 恢复 FTOL。但是 vd01 上面还是有 4 块盘是 leftover 的状态。

右键点击 vd01,选择 Tools -> Dequarantine Vdisk 按照指示解除 vd01 的隔离。
然后去命令行看 vd01 的状态会变成 OFFL

然后再到命令行执行 trust 命令,将 VD 恢复为 FTOL 状态。

据 HP 称,这样操作可能导致数据丢失。另外 HP 建议观察几天,没有问题的话升级一下固件。
